The #1 Excuse for Not Going After Your Dreams

“I’m too busy.”

“I’m just so busy.”

“When things settle down a little, then I’ll [work on my book / start my own business / get certified to teach yoga / do that thing I’ve been wanting to do for the past 5 years].”

Do you resonate?

Here’s the real question: are the things you’re so ‘busy’ doing now going to matter to you at the end of your life?

At the end of your life, are you going to wish you had worked more hours or earned more money? Are you going to say, “Boy, I’m glad I never said no to anyone who asked me for something”?

Or are you going to wish with all your heart that you had done the thing you dreamed of doing? Just gotten it done, instead of thinking about it and never doing anything?

I can’t find the article right now, but several years ago I read an interview with a hospice nurse. She spent years shepherding people out of this life and into the next. She asked all of them questions, including: What do you wish you had done differently?

Heartbreakingly, the number one answer to that question was, essentially, this: I wish I had been less afraid. I wish had just been myself, no matter what other people thought. I wish I had done the things I’d always wanted to do.

I use busyness as an excuse to put off doing things that scare me. I’m so busy – I can’t research agents to query for my novel. I’m so busy – I just don’t have time to work on that new book idea. I’m so busy – I can’t start my own business.

Well, I’m calling bullshit on myself. I’m not too busy – I’m just afraid.

At the end of my life, I want to know that I chased after my dreams – even if I was afraid. I want to know that I spent quality time with the people I love most in the world – even if that meant saying no to extra work, no to extra money, no to a volunteer request. So every day between now and then (whenever that may be), I’m going to do the things that matter to me, instead of letting fear – and busyness – get in the way.

I’m teaching a FREE webinar today, Monday, June 26: How to Be Less Busy Without Quitting Anything. (Can’t attend live? Sign up anyway and we’ll send you the recording!)

Are you ready to get to work on the book you’ve been dreaming of writing? I can help you get it done!
