Why Don’t You Have The Result You Want?


When I recently asked my client Katie* what she wanted to create in her business this year, she said, “I just want to make $5,000/month.”

“What’s stopping you?” I asked.

She paused and thought about it. “I don’t believe it’s possible for me,” she said.

Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re right.”

If we don’t believe that it’s possible to create the result we want, we are never going to create it.

So how do we start believing something we don’t yet believe?

We use the concept of stairstep thoughts.

Let’s say you want to start believing, I can make $60K this year in my business.

Let’s say your current thought is, Making $60K is not possible for me.

We create a series of thoughts that “stairstep” us from our current thought to the thought we want to believe.

It might look like this:

Current thought: Making $60K is not possible for me.

Step 1 thought: Other people make $60K in their businesses.

Step 2 thought: Maybe it’s possible for me to make $60K in my business. It might be possible.

Step 3 thought: Creating $5K per month is 2 clients at $2,500 each, or 4 clients at $1,250 each. If I bundled together my services, I could create a package and start finding clients.

ETC. …

Thought I want to create: I can make $60K this year in my business.

The stairstep thoughts will be different for everyone, and you may have to adjust as you go.

The trick is this: when you’re practicing a stairstep thought, you must believe it with no resistance.

It must feel true to you.

So start with whatever baby stairstep thought you need. It just needs to be a tiny bit closer to the thing you want to believe.
